Have A Seat

WTF?! This is all I could say as I looked at this creation by photographer and student, Nick De Marco. His new Eco-friendly XS chair has caught the attention of many already. I mean, who wouldn't be interested in seeing what is up with a chair curated of pop bottles, linen, and many other items that most would consider garbage. He is a student at the California College of Arts and has given inspiration to many aspiring art students with this one-of-a-kind design. Would you buy one for your living room?

Circa 1987

So while I was in the library at school supposedly researching for my class paper, I just happened to stumble across the 1980's Haper Baazar's and Vogue's (I'm not gone tell you what happened when I tried to take the August 1987 Vogue...the things we do for fashion...but that's my birthday year and month, I REALLY WANTED IT). Anywho, I finally saw Ms Iman in action, she was spotted in at least 3-4 ads throughout the mag, and this picture is from a Jacobson ad..I looked it up and I think it was a midwest department store. It was interesting to see all the big shots in their hay day, Linda Evangelista and Cristi Tirlington had a fashion spread together, along with a unknown black model that I'm gonna investigate. Something else I was excited about is that, when I looked at the Masthead guess who was absent??? Anna Wintour! She wasn't there yet, Grace Mirabella was the e-i-c and Diana Vreeland was the consulting editor...basically Grace asked Diana if she approved. So yeah, I was in heaven today at the library...too bad I got ZERO work done for class...oh well.

Here it is! I'll get you one day.

Remember When...

Jackets like these were in style??? I know it's been awhile...like 7th or 8th grade, but I guess MiMi wants it to make a comeback. Too bad I didn't want HER to make a comeback...she don't ever ever ever ever have to come back again, not with those almost booty shorts...meaning they could be booty shorts but they're about two inches too long. Actually, the whole look is 1999...The gel swoop that's not exactly swooped enough, the tinted glasses, the Jeannie ponytail, and heels. Now the heels are what really make it childish, back in the day, girls use to put on a heel with anything and call it dressy. "Mariah!!! (yelling) Your outfit isn't dressy!" She should really take it back and go stand in line on saturday morning to get the new Jordans to match this throwback of a fit.

Sorry MiMi...do not pass go or collect 200 dollars...straight to jail boo boo.

Can Naomi Campbell Get Any Bigger?!

For all you Naomi Campbell bashers, get started on that hate mail! Famed photographer, Nick Knight has announced that his newest project is creating 30-foot sculptures of Campbell. One sculpture will be of Naomi straddling the barrel of a large tank and the other will be a circle of three Naomi's, something like the Three Graces but it will be designed to be viewed from the inside of the circle. The only question I have is "Where are these gonna go?!?!" Maybe next to the statue of Abraham Lincoln in D.C.? Ok, maybe not. What if they have it something like the Statue of Liberty? That would be cool..tell us what you think and where you might erect this larger than life supermodel diva.

There's A New Guy On The Block

Male models are never given as much recognition as female models so Liv Lux has taken the courtesy of acknowledging a young man who we think has stepped up in the fashion industry and has plans on taking the runway by storm, one runway at a time! 23-year old model, Jon Kortajarena has a very impressive resume to show off to anyone willing to sit down and be amazed. Kortajarena started his career in 2004 with View Management and is now signed to Wilhelmina and Bleu Management. His debut was the 2004 fall Emporio Armani and John Galliano shows in Milan and Paris and later on that year he became the face of Just Cavalli for the spring. Throughout his career, Kortajarena has done over 10 ad campaigns and numerous editorials for high fashion magazines across the globe. Will somebody give this man his props?! In 2007 a contract was signed between Jon and Guess which he has recently renewed. I would say the most memorable stepping stone in Kortajarena's career so far would be the ad campaign for Tom Ford's 2008 spring look book. Can you say HOTT!?!? This guy has walked for the best of the best such as D&G, John Galliano, Giorgio Armani and Chanel. So I think I've given you all enough info on this cat, so why don't you all do your own research on Mr. Jon Kortajarena...trust me, it's always fun learning something new and I can guarantee you will be hearing this man's name more and more. And if you're not much of the reading type(yea right!), then just look at the nice pictures, deal?!

Did You See???

Did everyone get a chance to see desperate housewife, Eva Longoria Parker in Versace Atelier with Bulgari jewels at the Kung Fu Panda premiere? She looked awesome in the one-strap dress that seemed as though it was made just for her. I give her 2 thumbs up! What do you think?

-Christopher Nic.

Who Cares About Gas?!?

With Gucci bikes...no one should need or want a car. I mean have you ever seen a Gucci Car??? A real Gucci car, not a car with fake Gucci fabric that yo cousin from around the way threw on the back seats...yeah I didn't think so. I've really, no seriously, been considering investing in a set of 2 wheels not 4 to get around town, because I refuse to sacrifice clothes or food for "expensive for no reason" gas. Now Gucci gave me a reason to think a little harder, I'm sure it's about the equivalent of the price of a car , but hey...It's eco-friendly, and easy on the pockets in the long run. Also just extra fyi this particular Gucci bike was made for the Olympic games in Beijing. Coolness!

Well I guess we can't give Gucci all the credit, because Chanel has a fierce pair of wheels on the market too. I heard a story that Karl walked past a window of a store and saw the bike and went in and sat on it and caused a frenzy! Imagine walking past a store window and seeing Karl perched on a 10 speed Chanel...OMG I would just die! So here are my reasons to try to persuade you to ride bikes instead of drive...

1. Your working out while you travel, instead of traveling to the gym to work out.

2. It keeps about 200 extra dollars in your pocket a month, because your gas tank isn't drinking up all your money.

3. And lastly it's better on the environment! I'm sure Al Gore and Leonardo Dicaprio will love you lots if they see you riding a bike down the street. And Anna Wintour will love you more if she see's it's a Gucci bike.

So be cool people...and ride a bike!

Zac x Diddy

We all need to take notes from my God Daddy Diddy (yes I'm claiming him as my God Daddy, I know he has a lot of kids, but what will one more hurt). He said himself that he's not making money from music, but what he is making money from is the MTV shows that were on around the clock..bet you didn't know he was involved with Run's House (read the credits people)...all the making the bands, his fragrances, his clothing line, and now someone else's clothing line. It was the best idea in the world for Diddy to partner up with Zac Posen and his Ready to Wear Collection. For one: Zac's designs rock my socks, and two: Why not capitalize on your brand and someone else's brand?

I know I'm slipping but, I just took a look at Zac's Spring collection and I must say although not very cohesive, all the clothing is very much up to par...no what's better than par? A birdie?? Yeah I think his collection is a birdie, lol. He has amazing red carpet worthy dresses along with shirts, skirts, and pants that are great for everyday. And if you can't decide which trend to follow this season (tribal, artsy, floral) Posen pretty much covers them all so, be at ease my indecisive friends. All I can say is take a look for yourself, and like I said, take out your pen and pad whenever Diddy makes a move.

Pink Pony!

Now a days, you shouldn't dress unless it benefits something, and now you can with Ralph Lauren's new women's collection Pink Pony, which gives a portion of it's proceeds to the fight against cancer (I love killing two birds with one stone). I'm really feeling the Pink Pony collection...It might just give Victoria's Secret PINK a run for it's money...we'll see. It's also a decent price, in the same range as Ralph Lauren's Blue Collection, so it won't cost you a arm and a leg to give to a good cause while looking cute.

Miami Ink To Miami Makeup?!

Legendary tattoo artist, Kat Von D has came out with an exclusive new line of makeup at Sephora.com. And when I mean exclusive, I mean EXCLUSIVE! This is a limited line with not a lot of things to choose from; a few lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes and some liquid liner. She also has a brush kit called tattools. Catchy, ey? Ok, maybe not. But the good thing is that the prices are very reasonable(check it out Doni!) ranging from $16-$48. I also like how everything is packaged with the the rose, which is Kat's favorite tattoo. If you want to check them out visit sephora.com. Another good thing about this is, unlike tattoo's you can wash it off if you don't like it! :)

New Juicy's

The outrageously priced and outrageously boring clothing line Juicy Couture has opened two new stores in the Chicago area. Well, one opened in April and the other opens on the 29th. To celebrate the openings, on the 5th through the 7th ten percent of all profits will go to Common Threads, an organization for children focusing on a healthy lifestyle. The one opening this week is located on 101 E. Oak Street and both stores will offer clothing not available in department stores. These are the first Juicy stores in the midwest, so I'm sure all the spoiled lil brats will have a field day in the new stores. I hope they carry Couture Couture, their newer line, now that line's not boring...expensive...but not boring. If you haven't noticed by now, I complain a lot about price, I'm Tyra's offspring "The Princess of Cheap", so get use to it.
Happy Juicy Shopping!

Time to PAR-TAY!

One of Liv Lux's favorite clothing lines is gearing up for a long awaited showing and party in conjunction with Via Nove in Ferndale, MI. A lot of people have been waiting for Vividbraille to do another show or appearance, so if your one of those people clear your calender on June 5th, and get your party clothes ready. The party starts at 9pm and to get on the VIP list send an email to sunnypalms@comcast.net with subject "vip list".
Hope to see ya there!

Public Library & UO Collab To Save Darfur

For all of you who have wanted to help out in the fight to save Darfur but don't have thousands of dollars to donate...where there's a will, there's a way! I was looking on the Urban Outfitters website to check out what was hott or not in their S/S collection when I came across this lovely little tee. UO has collaborated with the Public Library and designed this exclusive graphic tee to help raise the awareness of the crisis going on over in Sudan. The v-neck tee is really relaxed and kinda just hangs off you. This has Olsen twins written all over it, don't you think? And the great thing with it being from UO is that you already know it doesn't cost an arm and a leg-only $28.00. With every shirt sold, $5 will be given directly to the Save Darfur Organization. How about you join us and support a good cause, because I know I want one!

Umbrella's and Underwear???

Chris Brown's leading lady always tries to think outside the box. So After chopping off your hair, dying it gothic black, and coming out with a line of umbrella's to compliment your hit song...what's next??? Well, underwear I guess! Rihanna told a UK magazine that she's thinking about coming out with an underwear line...which to me is a refreshing idea compared to the massive amounts of celeb clothing lines around here. She didn't go too far into detail but I'm sure we'll be seeing scantly clad billboards and commercials of Ri Ri Undies.

Vicky's?? Nope Ri Ri's!

-Doni W.

Speaking of Umbrella's...

John Galliano showed us exactly how a umbrella should be done, Tres Chic of course. Not the most functional umbrella's in the world but sometimes function is irrelevent in fashion (i.e. shoes that make your feet feel and look like monsters, or dresses designed only to lean not sit). Oversized, and adorned with immaculate prints...these umbrella's are not to be messed with, I'd hate to get in the way of a woman with one of these brella's...you already know that your going to be the one moving out the way...not her.

These are Galliano so I'd hate to see the price, let's just imagine (use your imagination) that you can pick these up at Macy's for $65....you'll need an extrodinairy imagination for that one...ha! Anyway,Keep it up Galliano, you inspire us!

Salute Your Shorts

Tis the season to let those bare legs show. Slouchy or tight..you gotta wear some shorts at least one day out of the summer. Just make sure that yours don't bunch up in the middle when you walk...I swear that has to be one the worst things in the world. Designers gave you shorts in a variety of styles this spring, from baggy boyfriend fit, to high waisted hoochy moma like Anna Sui did. And guys we're not leaving you out, you have to throw on some shorts too now... and not just the cargo shorts from Hollister...step it up and put on a nice fitted short (not too fitted we're not asking to see your package) after all it is the year of the gentleman...according to Ne-yo.

The athletic types are always wearing some sort of sports short, but this time around it can actually be worn outside the gym. Chanel's spring collection came equipped with tons of sports accessories to let you know that it's ok to be a fashionable jock. Below are a pair of shorts from the Stella McCartney Adidas collection, which I must admit, is a little too relaxed for my taste, but I'm sure you can take something from the collection and make it your own. For those of your who are scared of shorts...please get over it. Shorts come in so many styles now-a-days that you can cover up whatever your insecure about. For instance, a good Bermuda or walking short can be worn if your more conservative, or if your more of a rocker chick Alexander Wang did ripped denim shorts that can go from day to night with a change of shoes. Believe me, there are too many designers and styles for you to count any style out. So, show a little leg will ya?

The Perfect Pair...

...Of pants that is. I really love this skinny leg tweed trouser pant from D & G Dolce and Gabanna, these are ideal for the working girl who hate's to look "normal" with the same ole suit and cami combo, or sweater and boring pants. These let everyone know that yes, you do have a good job, and you can dress well because of that. I ♥ it. Visit Nordstroms.com to purchase.

I Am Not My Hair. My Pet Dog Is.

Now this is one that will go down in hair history! Japanese art director Nagi Noda has taken the unthinkable and brought it to life with his latest creations; synthetic hair animal hats. These are, by far, the hottest hats since the one our girl Sarah wore to the SATC premiere in London. There are 15 of them all in the form of animals from rabbits to owls to poodles to even elephants! It also been reported that they are making a special appearance on Bjork's upcoming tour in the UK. So keep your eyes open and wigs split for the ideas of Nagi Noda. To see some more of his work visit uchu-country.com.

Go Read A Book!!

Just because your a fashionista doesn't mean clothes should be your only interest...the main interest...but not the only one. Reading is definitely fundamental, and if you don't read the news paper or informational books like I do, then these two books are just for you. Humor, wit, and fashion as the foundation, now that's what I call a good read.

The first book is Bergdorf Blondes, a novel written by Vogue's contributing editor Plum Sykes (Plum...what an interesting name), who covers the adventures of a high society London heiress who is the life of all the parties and who's main concern is always to look outstanding. Shouldn't that be everyone's goal?

The second book is a memoir from Michael Tonello telling about his adventures of flying all over the world to different Hermes stores to buy Birkins bags...just for the hell of it. When telling his life and what he does to new people he met they would say "You should write a book" and I am glad he did. That type of lifestyle is a dream come true. Imagine "So, what do you do for a living?" "Oh, I fly to the most amazing places in the world to buy Hermes Birkin bags" WHAT?!? I swear if I ever start a book club (which I'm considering) this has to be the first read, I have to know how this type of life felt.

Time to start thinking of my memoir title, any suggestions??

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Chrisante Henderson

Ciao bello fashionistas...it took me forever but I finally got in touch with budding celebrity stylist Chrisante Henderson. This talented 21 year old who came out of the Michigan College of Beauty and who studied under the internationally known Ms. Kimberly Kimble is most definitely on his way to take the industry by storm. His creations are fresh, new, and very upscale. This extraordinary talent has styled the likes of rap legend MC Lyte, gospel pop superstar Kierra Sheard, and Bre from ANTM Cycle5. Not only that he has worked with designers such as Michael Kors, Heatherette, and Betsy Johnson. WOW...I know right!!! It had to be divine intervention that I crossed paths with this budding megastar. He has been from LA to Italy and finally returned my call for LL. And as usual I'm bringing the latest to you. But be informed that a spot in this young hair genius's chair will run you anywhere from $75.00 to $2,500 so come prepared. He'll make you look like a whimsical dream. Enjoy...

ML: What inspired you to do hair?

CH: My mother was stylist and I practically grew up in a salon. She became ill a few years back so i decided to pick up where she left off.

ML: What has been the most challenging and rewarding part about being a stylist?

CL: The most challenging thing is working with people in the industry who are often overly competitive and sheisty. The best part is making people look beautiful and confident.

ML: Who are you inspired by in the industry?

CH: Kim Kimble, Ursala Stephen, Andre Helly

ML: What are some of your major career goals?

CH: Be a member of The Union (major corp for stylist and make-up artist)

ML: What is the worst thing that ever happened to you since you started doing hair?

CH: OMG...This girl walked in the salon and as she was walking to my chair her hair was just falling out in clumps. I had to not only stop the extreme breakage but make her beautiful all over again.

ML: Wow that really had to be a challenge.

CH: You don't know the half. But all was well when she got up.

ML: What do you do when you aren't working?

CH: Shop, chill, hangout, and paint...I'm a private artist...lol

ML: What big things do you have coming up?

CH: Well I'll be transferring salons soon and i'll be working with a organization that will be providing beauty services to women in shelters, which is a nation-wide project. I'll also be traveling to Paris this fall to work with a fashion show there. My agent hasn't told me the designer yet, he says he wants to surprise me [shrugs and smiles].
ML: WOW! Well tell me Chris what advise do you have for budding celebrity stylist like yourself?

CH: Be confident in your talent and treat your customers like gold. Also when you start doing celebrities don't be star struck, treat them like regular people.

ML: Well thanks so much for your time. LL will be on the look out to see you in the credits of the next fashion mag credits.

CH: LOL thanks...
Well there you have it people. I can honestly say I enjoyed talking to him. He's so humble and good company as we sat there in his spacious West Bloomfield apartmentt. This young talent is going to surprise us all. If you want to get in touch with him you can catch him at Swank Salon in Southfield, Michigan.

"Her Pants Are Poorly Cut." -Lagerfeld

I really wish I had Hillary's email so I could forward this to her! Karl said what he needed to say...and has no problem expressing his feelings, even if they are directed towards former First Lady of the U.S. and a 2008 Presidential candidate. LMAO!! Another reason to love Karl Lagerfeld, ey?

"Coco avant Chanel"

Production for the biopic of the life of CoCo Chanel has begun and I can't wait until it hits the big screen! Well first I have to see SATC(May 30th!). Film actress, Audrey Tautou will play Chanel in the movie entitled Coco avant Chanel. Tautou has already made a name for herself on the big screen with chart toppers such as Amélie and the film version of the best selling novel The Da Vinci Code. She has also dabbled in a little of the fashion side of Chanel already by recently replacing Nicole Kidman as spokesperson for Chanel No. 5. The ad isn't set to hit until 09 so we'll be waiting a while on that. Anyways, I think that Tautou is a great person lead the film and portray such a legend in the fashion world. With her awesome performance in Amélie I can see where they go the idea to use her. She is a Frenchwoman and that's enough said. It only makes sense. I'm soooo glad they didn't follow through with their first choice(I hope Demi isn't reading this..oops!). Well this is all the info I know on the movie so far. I promise to keep you all updated, k? Until then, why don't you do some research on Chanel so you'll be ahead of everyone else in the movie theater that night! ;)

Best Dressed

Everyone tried their fashion best at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, and they all get an A for effort, but the Liv Lux Award for best dressed definitely has to go to, the one and only Miss Linda Evangelista. With this pose though she could've worn a sack and probably would've still caught our attention. Lanvin was the designer of choice, and I just need to know who to thank for introducing Linda to this dress...it's a match made in heaven. (Sigh)

Hollywood Crazy's

This season of The Real World is the farthest thing from real that I've ever seen. Fights every other second, hook ups with strange people, hook ups with each others people...I mean this stuff couldn't happen in "The Real World" if it wanted to. I normally don't watch TRW, I probably haven't watched it like this since the season with ole dude singing "Come and be my baby tonite"...y'all remember that. Anyway I was glued to the tv set earlier today, partly because Will is gorgeous when he pulls those dreads back, and because they had the most hilarious pop ups on the screen commenting on everything the nutty cast did. I must say, only in Hollywood does one roommate goes to rehab, and two others admit to addiction (Sarah was Anemic, and Bri did coke and meth...along with everything and body else). And I'm not gonna even talk about Greg The Chosen One and his "peasants", for some reason I find him really funny and I like that he pisses everyone off with his sarcasm...seems like Will's gonna let him have it though.

Let's see how the drama unfolds...

-Doni W.

Liv Lux 5 Fav

So if I could have it my way these 5 new hot thangs would be in my 5 fav...no offense to the people who are currently in my 5 fav. These women are making a name for themselves and becoming the new breed of IT girls around town, minus the DUI's and wild nights with the paps by their side. I think these girls represent the "New Pretty", which has a lot more...swag, (for lack of better words) than the average pretty girls. Well, get into our 5 fav.

Zoe Kravitz

Ok, this girl is the definition of cool...cool personified...cool in a bottle, ok you get it, she's just effortlessly cool. Zoe really had no choice but to be cool. If your mom is Lisa Bonet and your dad is Lenny Kravitz, and you came out acting like girly girl, or glamour girl like Beyonce...there'd be some problems. You can't be a cheerleader with rockstar parents. Anyway, of course I know you saw Zoe in Jay-z's video "I Know", btw, did anybody understand the video??? My theory was, that all her characters were high throughout the whole video. Zoe also appeared in No Reservations, The Brave One and the new Wil.I.Am video in support of Obama. I love love ♥ Zoe's style and her fearlessness when it comes to fashion. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her.

Kid Sister

"Ayyeee, rhinestones up in they face, gold charms and paper chase". That has to be my favorite line from Pro Nails by Kid Sister featuring Kanye. She definitely has the right idea, and is moving in the right direction when it comes to music. It's all about the underground right now, indie artists, and fun catchy music that doesn't take itself too serious. Kid hails from the Chi, and has got tons of hometown support and love. She started by rapping at party's and soon got featured on MTV2's My block (I know we've all seen My Block). She's signed to producer A-traks label, Fools Gold, and has big things in the works. I wanna see who really does her nails, dont you??

Solange

Was I the only in love with Solange's first single??? I was wondering why she didn't get the shine she deserved. Anyway ole girl is back and more confident, and her new song has been stuck in every body's head lately. I really like how Solange does her own thing and is not fighting for the spotlight that Beyonce has in a chokehold...she found her own place within the music industry and I think this time around she'll get a lot of attention for that. Baby Daniel must be so proud of Mommy. Can't wait for Sol-Angel And The Hadley St. Dreams to be released, which will be released on my birthday (August 26th...mark your calenders). Best of Luck Solange!

Vashtie

Vashtie Kola Ms. Vashtie has been seen on the arms of Pharell (one reason to hate her), and packing out old school parties in NYC. She put together the amazing video for Child Rebel Soldiers' Us Placers, and is working on a clothing line called, Violette. Busy woman right?? Well she does all this without missing a beat, keeping her style easy going, and completely tomboy. No party dresses and Louboutins for her, it's more like Dunks and hoodies, which fits in perfectly at her parties themed 1992. She's known as the Downtown Sweetheart and I can see why, in almost every pic she has a smile...well keep smiling Vashtie, your future looks bright.

Ellen Page

Yes. She is the boss, applesauce. Ellen Page was amazing in Juno, anyone who can make me cry while laughing gets kudos from me. The Canadian native has a whole slew of awards and accomplishments, one of them being a spot on FHM's Sexiest Women in the World list. I bet that was a surprise since she really doesn't try to be sexy. I love how her career is not headed in the direction of an actress like Lohan, she's a real actress who plays real roles. I'm on team Page!

So like that deep voice guy on the commercial says..."Who's in your 5 Fav?"
