Just A Thought...

As we bring 2008 to a close, I feel that some things should be left in 2008. There's no need to go through the never-ending list of things that should be left behind, so I'd rather point out #1 on my list; SWAGGER.

I have never, in my 18 years of living, seen a word played out so quick. I mean, c'mon now..the word is used every 2 seconds on ESPN(don't ask what I was doing watching sports). It has gotten to the point where my skin crawls at the mention of the 'word that must not be said'.

So just take this into consideration...as you all make new years resolutions to better yourself, think about a better vocabulary as well. :)

Ruffian is a line I got very familiar with in the fall and I instantly fell for their mastery of the skinny pant and slight rustic/dark vibe the line gives off. For spring it's all about structure, shape, and detail. They have some amazing looks that define the waist and add interest in just the right amounts. Well LaQuanda I know that the full figured woman has limited options...BUT! There are some things you can do to stand out from the rest. First I would consider shopping online. There are plenty of options out there on the web that cater to the women with curves. I did some digging and I really like Torrid.com, Kiyonna.com, and Igigi.com.

The second thing I would suggest is to look in ususal places. Right now menswear inspired looks are really hot, so you can go to the mens department, which carries larger sizes, and spice it up with a waist belt and a pair of heels. Almost all of us are influenced by the style of people in the entertainment business. There are so many different types of celebs with their own different style that appeals to us. But are all of them worthy of being called a Style Icon? I don't think so. Let's go through a few names and decide if they have shown that they are not just what their stylist picks out for them.



Tyra Banks
First, we have former model, talk show host, actress, singer and businessperson Tyra Banks(Lemme catch my breath, lol). Banks has been around for a long time now and she is still in the game without a sign of stepping down any time soon. Even though I'm over ANTM now, I still love Tyra - she can just make some foolish decisions at times. But when it comes to style, I feel as though she's been in the game long enough to know right from Condoleezza Rice(Whoops, I didn't mean to type that). Maybe, I'm alone on this one but I really don't see style when I look at Miss Banks. Sorry, girl but imma have to say NO!

It's been reported by WWD that the world known doll will be TIPPIN' in a pair of pink Christian Louboutin high heels for her birthday. The shoes will be released along with the designer clothing that Barbie will be wearing on her birthday during New York's Fashion Week in February.

Damn...

I guess there's a time when it all falls down. Legendary fashion house, Bill Blass is about to come to a close in January 2009. The clothing lines' Seventh Avenue showroom let go of around 30 employees this past Friday and production is planned to cease on January 1. The main reason for the shut down is pretty obvious; economy. So until the house finds a willing buyer, which might be pretty hard seeing as though Blass is not as popular as it once was, the clothing line will be stopped until further notice.


49 years of renowned fashion...gone in the blink of an eye. :'(
